It is time

Noah was not due until October 17th. Doctors said that he had dropped and was in position but he gave no signs he was ready to enter into the world. Well not until Saturday October 4 at 5:30 a.m. when Rachel's water broke. This was the day! (it was interesting to hear Rachel and Ryan say that their dog, Brutus, a puggle, was hanging very close to Rachel and was whining quite a bit - he must have known something was happening!)

Matthew, our youngest had come to Indy on Friday. We headed up to Marion to watch David, our oldest son play in the alumni soccer game for homecoming weekend at Indiana Wesleyan University. We were half way there when Diane called and she said plans have changed. We turned around and headed back home to pack. We spent time making calls. I was to be on-call on Sunday at Methodist Hospital. Diane needed to call her director. We had made contingency plans but could not finalize until we heard the news. We wanted to be there for the birth and help out when they came home. We were thankful that where we both worked allowed us to take time off to be out family. With everything in the truck and the dog in the back, we headed to MI by 1 p.m.

We made it up here by 6 p.m. We dropped off our dog at their house and came to the hospital. When we arrived in the room about 6:30 p.m., Rachel was more uncomfortable. The monitor indicated that she was having stronger contractions. We were not there very long until the nurse said after the examination, that Noah was not going to wait any longer. By 6:50 Noah was making his voice heard in the room. He was 6 lbs. 7 oz. and 19 inches long.

Ryan's (Noah's father) parents had arrived before us and were in the waiting room. They both had Ohio State Jerseys on being from Ohio and supporting the Ohio State Football team that played at 8 p.m. It was hard to believe he was here. He was small but still had meat on his bones. We were surprised at how long his fingers were and how big were his feet. Sure signs of a future star athlete! We all enjoyed holding him and watching in amazement.

Diane remembered when our kids were born as she watched Rachel going through the process. She said, "this time I can focus on the baby because I am not worn out." I realize this time that I don't have indentations on my wrist from Diane's grip! (I still have the scars!) What a great family moment! How thankful that little Noah is doing so well and truly a part of our family. God is so good and life is so great!

Seeing a new side of life,
